Pumpkin Pie Smoothie

I can’t take credit for this recipe. I found it in Dr. Gregor’s “How Not to Die” cookbook. I have been making these all summer long but they are especially tasty this time of year. I hope you enjoy this recipe as much as I have.

Ingredients

  • 1 frozen banana (cut into pieces before freezing)
  • 1/2 cup pure pumpkin puree
  • 1 tbsp. almond butter
  • 3 pitted dates
  • 1/4 tsp. ground turmeric
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon

Directions

Combine all ingredients with 1/2 cup water and blenderize until smooth.

Hi everyone! It's no secret. I'm pretty addicted to eating clean and leading a healthy lifestyle. I am a registered nurse and chronic condition educator (diabetes, heart failure, hypertension, obesity & COPD). Nothing excites me more, personally and professionally, then helping others take control of their health. It really is a passion of mine. That's why I created this blog! When I am not in the kitchen creating healthy eats or digging through scientific literature, I enjoy hiking, biking, gardening and spending time with hubby Dennis. Oh and I am a mother to a loud mouthed parrot named Pickles, a 20 year old black cat named Charlie and about 50,000 honey bees.

    1. That makes me super happy and excited Mike! There will be much more coming! Also, I’m not saying you have to completely convert over to WFPB no SOS. I try my very best to practice this way of eating but there are times when I am away from home that I am at the mercy of what’s available. Even if you do 1 or 2 meals a week of green light eating you are that much more healthy!

  4. Thanks for your helpful post. As time passes, I have been able to understand that the particular symptoms of mesothelioma cancer are caused by the actual build up connected fluid regarding the lining on the lung and the upper body cavity. The sickness may start within the chest region and spread to other body parts. Other symptoms of pleural mesothelioma cancer include fat reduction, severe deep breathing trouble, nausea, difficulty taking in food, and bloating of the neck and face areas. It ought to be noted that some people having the disease usually do not experience just about any serious indicators at all.

    1. Well I feel it’s important to begin treatment as soon as possible for best possible outcome – chemotherapy, removal of the tumor and possibly some of the organ the tumor has impinged on and radiation (if necessary). That said, EXTREMELY important in sustaining remission are self care habits. By this I mean good nutrition, good sleep hygiene (6-8 hrs/night), regular activity/exercise, mindful meditation, yoga, scheduled vacations and socializing, psychotherapy for associated depression and anxiety etc. There is an excellent section in Dr. Greger’s How Not to Die book which addresses a cancer diet. Cancer cells love concentrated sugar. Cancer cells depend on blood sugar for energy. There are some studies that suggest sugar and sweetened drinks raise the chances of cancer 70% or more. Not the sugar that is made from complex carbs (legumes, pasta, potatoes, rice etc) but the out right sweets. There’s research from Mayo Clinic (to name just one) about how plant based diets help fight cancer and sustain remission (fruits, vegetables, nuts, whole grains, legumes and plenty of spices!) Plants produce phytochemicals that protect cells from damage. Inflammatory foods like meats and processed meats & foods are cancer promoters (among other things). The chemical compunds created when red meat is cooked and compunds in processed foods thought to be responsible. In regards to your comment about people not having many of the symptoms I firmly believe maintaining a good positive attitude has much to do with this.
